Fewer foreclosures, short sales of homes in central Ohio (dispatch)
The number of foreclosures and short-sale homes continues to shrink in central Ohio, though such “distressed” properties continue to play a large role in the area’s housing. During the first quarter of the year, 37.5 percent of central Ohio home sales were distressed, down from 45 percent during the first quarter of 2011 though up slightly from the end of last year. The number of such homes for sale dropped dramatically, from 3,677 a year ago to 2,010 at the end of the March. About 17 percent of all homes listed now are foreclosures, short sales or HUD listings, compared to 22.6 percent a year ago.
