May Day Protests Revive the Occupy Movement (Vibe)

Today Occupy Wall Street joined labor and immigration activists for a May Day general strike across the country. The protest came with the intent to show the “1 percent” what life without the “99 percent” would be like by encouraging workers and students to skip work and school. From Reuters: _Scheduled actions ranged from a "pop-up encampment" in a New York City park to a promise to "occupy" San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge._ _A text message alert broadcast late Monday from an Occupy Wall Street address said: "All civilians stand by for GENERAL STRIKE at 08:00. No Work, School, or Shopping. All out in the streets!"_ _Activities were set to kick off early in New York at Bryant Park in midtown, where protesters plan to set up an encampment emblematic of the movement's early days in lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park near the Wall Street financial district._ The May Day protest comes after last year’s movement during which Wall Street demonstrators spoke out against U.S. financial policies they felt created a gap between the wealthy and poor.
