Thomson Presently Organizes People’s Life at the Sanctuary Mission
Previously Nada Thomson used to help organize people’s residence, now at the Sanctuary Mission she helps community members to organize their lives. Nada Thomson started out as a Personal Organizer with her own company called Artful Organizers and made the move into assisting the poor around 2006.
The mission is a healthy or wealthy community that is representation for the poor. The Sanctuary strives to help and support everyone regardless of the colour of your skin or your religion. The mission has individuals from all walks of life, both male and female and a diverse age group, nobody is excluded. The help they give, helps the thousands of needy people who pass through their doors every year.
The street outreach team does an important job, going out to people on their own turf, offering and providing support such as meals and Children’s Aid. There is also a drop in centre, a health clinic and rehab provided, the mission believes in helping the complete person, a holistic approach. Another thing the charity does is give employment training, which can only mean more meaningful employment for people.
To celebrate Xmas, the Sanctuary holds a big Christmas feast which takes place each year. With Xmas gift bags, a feast, talent shows and a play, this is truly a special event for all those involved. Many events are put on throughout the year, with September seeing a music concert in the park with a corn roast, a 5k walk for poverty in the warmer months and a spring play. It is definitely important that individuals know that when they donate money, they can participate. The rich and the poor, the organisation want to could the gap. People, who have been stripped of their self worth, will be given back their dignity. To really help these people, time, a feeling of community and friendship are just a couple of things that make a difference to a person previously rejected by society.
The charity is not a substitute for social services but an additional service set up to help. Individuals are classed as friends and are now living indoors rather than on the street. These people could not do it by themselves, therefore the Sanctuary has helped them find a property and furnish it.
To give you an idea on one of the success stories of this organisation, is one of a female born in Toronto and raised there. The foster care system is where this young baby ended up not long after her birth due to horrendous abuse. The maltreatment she experienced included her aunt setting light to her crib. Her grandma found this baby covered in cockroaches. One of the worst shocking acts she was put through was that of being sexually abused. She went from foster home to foster home and relationship to relationship, and she was addicted to many things. For four years this woman has been attending the Sanctuary, a testimonial to the guidance and help she has been receiving.
